I was just wondering how some people know about dolls way before they are released.
I know as a club member you get some advanced notice of new dolls, but how do some people already know that Emily (Molly's English friend) will be the best friend doll for next year?
What other things are coming up?
Thanks! Jessica

One of the ways is through trademark searches.
It started a few years back. A member here e-mailed me privately and asked if I knew if there was a way we could look into trademarks. I can't remember who it was (sorry!). Since then it has been a matter of looking up American Girl registered trademarks. Other members here have found much better search terms than I knew how to use back then.
It's not always a for sure thing when something is trademarked, though. A lot of companies let their trademarks expire and the concepts never turn into products. There are some really interesting things AG has considered, including their own TV network (?) and an American Girl brand for boys.
If you want to try a search, just visit here:

It's so exciting to be the first person to know about something that might be new and upcoming!

OK, so the fact that Valerie Tripp has "confirmed" it pretty much convinces me that Emily's next.
Well, I HAVE to get her, right? I mean, my Mom and Molly lived the same time period, DH is a Brit, his parents remember the Blitz...I'm pretty much OBLIGATED.
Man, I've gotten good at rationalizing!

Well I have to say that I'm pretty darn excited! (Jess will be really neat too!) I wonder what type of clothes they will have for Emily, and what type of accessories.
We know she has to get a puppy, but what else could there be!? I love Molly's 1940's stuff, so I'm pretty excited.
If the best friend books always end in the year 6, than that would mean Emily's will be 1946, which means the war is over. I wonder how they'll work that in, or if they'll change her year.
Any ideas?
Jessica

Sadly, many children lost parents in the Blitz.
Could be that Emily's father doesn't make it and she and her mother decide to make a new start in the States. Maybe she would stay with Molly's family until her mother's paperwork was straight and she could get a job.

Oh...I think my Mom is getting another doll next Christmas! She's happy just having Molly, but I think Molly could use her best friend...not to mention the nifty stuff they'll have for her and Molly.

It's easy really... we know because we have no lives so we spend time looking up every little crumb of information

But how do you find such good crumbs! I saw it on Wikimedia.com (searched American Girl), and someone posted there that the next doll will be Emily.

I met Valerie Tripp at an author signing at AGP in September, and she did tell me that she was currently writing Emily's book.
